 Walk to School Week

We have been joining in the annual Walk to School Week.

 Walk to School campaign

The purpose of the Walk to School campaign is to raise awareness of the alternatives to car travel. In schools, the campaign promotes the health, social, economic, and environmental benefits of active and sustainable transport, whilst also integrating key road safety messages. The campaign also recognises the role parents play in their child’s travel arrangements and attempts to demonstrate realistic and practical alternatives to the car.

School travel is becoming increasingly important. According to the Department for Transport, the number of children travelling to school by car has doubled over the past 20 years and the school-run itself is estimated to be responsible for over two million tonnes of CO2 each year.

Every school in West Sussex is invited to take part in the Walk to School campaign, with events organised in May and October.
